Talking it over
Folks who have any type of disease sometimes need to talk things over - and it helps if the someone they talk to is familiar with the same disease.
That’s where groups and forums come in.
If you are a diabetic you have unique symptoms and fears and concerns - it is so much easier to discuss these with folks who have gone through some of the same things as yourself.
As I have said previously my husband is the diabetic in our family. And, try as I might to educate myself - it’s just not quite the same thing as being able to talk it over with someone else who is experiencing the same thing.
My insurance provides counseling through the mail and in once a month phone calls to hubby. These specially trained nurses talk with him about his symptoms and his current health, ask questions, and make suggestions. No, he doesn’t always like the suggestions (or the questions) but he has learned some things from these folks. And, for that I am thankful.
Now, it is best to be cautious about forums and such for medical concerns - but I’m sure you have already discovered that for yourself, right? I have seen some forums where questions are asked and then answered by folks who probably have no business answering them, other than that their hearts are in the right place.
But you have to be so careful what you take as gospel.
That said . . . here are some forums I have run across. Please understand I am not endorsing any of these - nor am I suggesting that such a forum would be a replacement from consulting a doctor or nurse familiar with your disease.
The American Diabetes Association has scads of information - and there are some message boards there as well.
Talk Diabetes forum - in the UK
Above all else, talk with your doctor or nurse practitioner to get the straight scoop on YOUR symptoms and problems. NOBODY else has YOUR body, NOBODY else has YOUR symptoms, NOBODY else is YOU. Okay?
