Speaking of Insurance & Such
According to the American Diabetes Association website, Undiagnosed Diabetes in U.S. Men Falls Sharply.
I hope you will read the entire article which was posted on the 14th. You might wonder why I titled this entry as I did. Please, consider this quote from the article:
“Some disparities remain. For example, less-educated men are far more likely to have their diabetes remain undiagnosed than better-educated men, the study found.”
Now, I may be incorrect in my deductions here . . .
. . . but generally those who are better educated (do we read that to mean those with college diplomas? Masters degrees? Doctorates?) - those with higher education generally get better jobs. Those better jobs generally come with better benefits. And, those benefits include (more often than not) medical insurance.
Keep reasoning this out with me, friends.
Those who have insurance have the means to see physicians on a more regular basis.
Those who see their doctors . . . get more tests performed . . . and their tests will lead to more medical problems being discovered - in a timely manner - at a lesser out of pocket expense.
Of course, I could be all wet here. As I said before, we are blessed in that we now have insurance through my position at a non-profit agency.
But when hubby was diagnosed back in the mid-70’s (the time period that the above quoted article cites) he worked a blue collar job with next to nothing in the way of insurance. Getting him to go to the doctor was like pulling hen’s teeth - it didn’t happen because we couldn’t afford it.
His diabetes was well established by the time it was discovered.
He told a friend the other day that he has agreed to let me write about him in this forum. He told the same friend that I would be writing about all the “bad” things he had done over the years. I don’t consider them bad - I do consider a lot of them as unfortunate errors in judgement.
I’ll talk more about that over the weeks - hoping along with my husband that we can help others NOT make the same mistakes/errors in judgement.
Thanks for coming along for the ride.
