Gestational Diabetes

by

Good Morning All!

Today I want to discuss Gestational diabetes. This form affects women when they are pregnant. Women who have never had diabetes, can develop it for the duration of their pregnancy. The reason for this being that when pregnant the hormones in the body increase, as well as the hormones in the placenta. These hormones stop the insulin from working as affectively. Creating high glucose levels in the body.

About 4% of pregnant women develop Gestational Diabetes each year. This is often hard to detect because many women have no symptoms. Those that do experience symptoms similar to pregnancy like: frequent urination, or increase hunger.

Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes:
1. Frequent Urination

2. Increase thirst

3. Increased hunger

4, Eye Problems: Such as blurry vision

5. Mood Changes

Most women that get Gestational Diabetes have a 90% chance of getting it again, while pregnant. As with all Forms of Diabetes it is important to keep your diet recommendations,as well as keep good control of your sugar levels.
